UAFS Names First Young Alumni Council(Posted: October 17, 2011)
Twelve graduates of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith have been named to the Young Alumni Council in its inaugural year and met as a group for the first time during Alumni Weekend festivities at the University.
Katie Kratzberg of Fort Smith, student and young alumni coordinator at UAFS, said the Council has a purpose encompassing five areas.
"The Council is designed to actively engage UA Fort Smith's young alumni," she said, "maintain a relationship between young alumni and the University, foster interaction between young alumni and the University, increase awareness and involvement in the Alumni Association and promote the social, professional and philanthropic interests of young alumni."
Kratzberg said the Council members all received bachelor's degrees from UAFS, with their graduation years ranging from 2005 to 2010.
"These former students represent a variety of academic areas on our campus," she said, "and come to us as Council members with a great deal to contribute to the University. Each one, like Emily Daugherity, has shown excitement to be a part of the first Young Alumni Council"
Daugherity of West Fork, who is a 2010 UAFS graduate, said her experiences as a student have proven to be "invaluable" to her.
"I am grateful to be able to give back to the campus and community by serving on the Council," she said. "I can see that we have a great group of people who have a passion about getting other young alumni involved and back on the UAFS campus in fun and engaging ways. I can't wait to see what we will accomplish in the coming years."
