Auditions are held in the Echols Building at UAFS

Junior Flute Choir:  Students must have one year experience to participate.

Advanced Flute Choir: The Advanced Flute Choir is by audition only!

World Drum Circle:  For students grades 4 - 7.  No experience necessary.  Simply be one of the first 30 to register.  World drums of all types will be explored. 

Prelude String Orchestra:  The Prelude String Orchestra is for students grades 4 - 7 new to reading music in an orchestral ensemble.  Students should have completed Suzuki Book I (or equivalent) and have beginning note-reading skills. 

Audition Requirements:

Scales

Violin and Bass:  G,D, and A Major 1-octave scale; G Major 2-octave scale

Viola and Cello:  C,G, and D Major 1-octave scale; C Major 2-octave scale

Students should also prepare a short piece demonstrating their current proficiency level and be prepared to play a short sight-reading exceprt in first position with simple rhythm.

Academy Orchestra:  The Academy Orchestra is an intermediate orchestra for students grades 5 through 10.  The Academy Orchestra performs original compositions and arrangements of symphonic music. 

Audtion Requirements:

Scales

Violin, Viola and Cello:  C, G, D, A, F, Bb, and Eb Major 2-octave scales

Bass:  G, F, and A 2-octave scales, D, C, Bb and Eb 1-octave scales

Students should also prepare a short piece demonstrating their current proficiency level and be prepared to play a short sight-reading excerpt.

All Region Winds:  The All Region Winds is for students in grades 7 – 10.  The group performs original compositions and arrangements of band music.

Youth Honor Symphony Orchestra:  The Symphony Orchestra is an advanced full orchestra for students in grades 9 through 12, and for college aged students to age 20 or younger.  The flagship of the Youth Symphony program, the Symphony Orchestra performs standard orchestral repertoire and new compositions. The Symphony Orchestra is by audition only!  Please come prepared to play a solo piece and any of your specific region requirements, as well as your scales based on your region requirements. 

Audition Requirements:

Scales

Violin: G, A, C, D, E, F, B, Bb, Eb, Ab scales and arpeggios in three octaves.

Viola: C, D, F, G, E, B, Bb, Eb, Ab, A scales and arpeggios in three octaves.

Cello: C, D, F, G, E, B, Bb, Eb, Ab, A scales and arpeggios in three octaves.

Bass: E, F, G, A, Bb, C, Eb, A, D scales and arpeggios must be two octaves.

Woodwind/Brass: As specified by Arkansas All-State Audition requirements.

In addition to scales, both string and wind students should prepare a short piece demonstrating their current proficiency level and be prepared to play a short sight-reading excerpt.  Percussionists, a snare drum, xylophone, and four timpani will be available for the audition. The students' solo selection must be played on any of the above instruments. The marimba will not be available.
