Individual Career Planning

Professional advisors are available to help you explore majors and careers. Individual career planning starts with a conversation between you and an advisor to determine where you are in the career planning process.

While there are many online resources to research careers and majors, Student Advisement and Career Planning can provide students with a Career Planning Toolbox. The Career Planning Toolbox is a notebook that has self assessment tools, values and interest inventories as well as decision making and long term planning exercises. It is designed to provide students with a step by step process to choosing a career and/or major. It is recommended that the students work through the process with the guidance of a professional advisor.

After the process of self assessment, exploration of majors and individual career planning, it is time to choose from the majors and careers you have examined so carefully and determine which one is the best match for you. The career planning process is ongoing, and bi-directional, meaning you can move back to previous steps when you need to gather more information or clarify your choices.
