Who Should Avoid Online Courses and Why
While online courses are effective for some students, they may also present major difficulties for others. We suggest the following students avoid online courses:
- Freshmen who will benefit from a traditional class environment with guidance from an instructor (traditional classes operate on a strict regular class schedule, and instructors usually require daily class work)
- Students who need closer daily contact with faculty
- Students who have a better understanding of lectures in a classroom environment than they do in an online environment
- Students who thrive on daily in-person social interaction with their peers
- Students who achieve learning outcomes in a more structured environment
