Work Study

The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith work study program allows many students to gain valuable work experience while also helping them pay for college expenses. Most jobs allow for flexible work schedules and offer the convenience of working on campus. Work study creates an atmosphere to practice communication, interpersonal skills and time management. Your supervisor may become an excellent reference.

The Federal Work Study program is need-based employment and funding is provided by the federal government. In order to be able to participate in the federal work study program, a student must have completed a FAFSA for the school year in which they are applying for employment, and the student must be determined federal aid eligible.

The University Work Study program is not based on financial need and wages are paid by the University. Completion of the FAFSA is not required to participate in University Work Study. The student is required to be enrolled in classes at our university.

Interested?

Students are encouraged to apply by completing a Student Employment Application.  Applications are also available at the financial aid office. Completed applications are turned in to Financial Aid. Incomplete or ineligible applications will not be considered.

The University does NOT assign a job to any student. Federal Work Study on your financial aid award screen is an estimate of wages which could be earned.

Supervisors who wish to hire a student worker review applications and arrange interviews. The candidate who is chosen will be made a job offer by the hiring supervisor.

Students who are hired earn $7.25 an hour and work a maximum of 15 hours per week. Direct deposit is required. Students are paid bi-weekly.

    What positions are available?

A variety of student jobs exist on our campus. Student worker supervisors make all hiring decisions. There are many supervisors across campus.  The financial aid office is often not notified of job openings which exist because of the supervisor autonomy to fill those positions.
