Social Media Guide

 

UAFS recognizes social media as an opportunity to connect and communicate with students, faculty, staff and the general public. We encourage the use of social media across campus to help disseminate information regarding events, news, publications, programs and other resources on an as-needed basis.

 

These guidelines apply to members of the UAFS social media community, including, but not limited to, students, faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the greater community who speak on behalf of or with an express affiliation to UAFS.

 

Do:

Protect personal information

With respect to safety and security, UAFS requests that social media account administrators refrain from posting personal contact information (home phone, cell phone, mailing or home addresses, personal email addresses, etc.) on social media accounts.

 

Pay attention to copyright laws

When posting content found on non-UAFS accounts or websites, please remember to follow proper intellectual property laws as well as UAFS branding rules. If you are uncertain about the context of a UAFS logo or third-party copyright, contact the UAFS marketing office for clarification, or visit the Graphic Standards page of the toolbox.

 

Support UAFS accounts

UAFS encourages social media administrators to collaborate and support other UAFS accounts whenever possible to help keep our messaging clear and assist other departments.

 

Follow FERPA guidelines

Federal laws (including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or "FERPA"), Arkansas state law, and UAFS policies governing the confidentiality of student and applicant records (and information from such records) apply to social media use. Make sure you are not posting any information that is confidential and/or highly restricted or restricted data. An FAQ regarding post-secondary FERPA regulations is available by clicking HERE

 

Don’t:

Handle inappropriate posts on your own

While UAFS supports free speech, any affiliated account must comply with university policies. If any post involves violence or is believed to be discriminatory, harassing, defamatory or obscene:

  1. Do not respond to the post.

  2. Notify the university relations office at 479-788-7027.

  3. Print a copy of the post for your records with the date and name of the source.

 

Endorse third parties

We encourage you to use social media to share information about your work at UAFS. However, any advertising, solicitation, or overtly favorable acknowledgements or endorsements of third-party products and services is not permitted.
