Radiography students at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith showcased their talents last week when they won a slew of awards during the Arkansas Society of Radiologic Technologist Conference held on the UAFS campus.

Kali Patterson of Greenwood won first place in the essay competition at the conference, while UAFS swept the exhibit competition category, with Chad Martin of Fort Smith placing first, Kimberly Green of Fort Smith placing second, and Casey Newman of Lavaca earning third.

Additionally, UAFS student teams placed first and third in the Quiz Bowl category out of 42 competing teams, with the first place team consisting of Green, Timmery Adams of Oden and Michael Wiginton of Fort Smith. Students in the third place team were Parker Sampson, Chad Martin, and Robert Tran, all of Fort Smith.

Angie Elmore, executive director of the radiography program, said the awards demonstrated the exceptional quality of the radiography program at UAFS.

“I am very proud of our students’ achievements at the 2017 ArSRT conference,” Elmore said. “Each student worked extremely hard in preparing for the competition. This success clearly demonstrates the quality of our radiography program and one of many reasons it is the best radiography program in the state.”

The radiography program at UAFS boasts a 100 percent job placement for its graduates over the last five years, as well as a 98 percent first-time pass rate on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists exam in that same span.

More than 150 students from across the state attended the conference, which was held in the Pendergraft Health Sciences Center on campus.
