Nursing Awards Ceremony Set for Dec. 10

Nursing Awards Ceremony Set for Dec. 10(Posted: November 10, 2012)

Martha Ullrich, director of nursing at Cooper Clinic, will be the keynote speaker for a Dec. 10 nursing awards ceremony at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.

The ceremony – for students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program – is slated for 6 p.m. in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. The event requires tickets for admission, which are available from nursing students.

Ulrich has been a registered nurse for 41 years and has been the director of nursing at Cooper Clinic since 1987. She is a member of the American Nurses Association and the Arkansas Nurses Association.

During the ceremony, a total of 40 students will be pinned. The pinning of students is a time-honored nursing school tradition, dating back before the turn of the 20th century. The ceremony is held at UAFS at the end of completion of the academic program of study and just prior to graduation. The pinning symbolizes the move for participants from student to nurse.

Awards will be given for the valedictorian, salutatorian, Outstanding Clinician in Nursing and the Carolyn McKelvey Moore School Spirit Award.
