Dr. Elizabeth Underwood, formerly the associate vice chancellor for government and university relations at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, will be returning to her alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Asheville, to serve as the senior director of alumni relations. Her last day at UAFS is May 25.
When University of Arkansas – Fort Smith graduate Hunter Delarm of Macon, Mo., began working in the Department of External Funding at UAFS to help find grants for the university, he never imagined he would end up receiving a grant that would help him in his studies.
Thanks to a $2,500 grant through an endowment from the UAFS Foundation honoring Lucille Speakman, one University of Arkansas – Fort Smith professor will travel to Spain to study religious artwork and gain knowledge that will benefit both her and her students.
Two years ago, the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith received accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission to begin offering its first master’s degree in healthcare administration. Now, two years later, the first graduating class walked across the stage to receive their degrees at the university’s commencement ceremonies held last weekend.

The History Club at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will be conducting workshops throughout the summer on cemetery preservation for community members in the Fort Smith and northwest Arkansas areas.

Kradel, Hale to Serve as Speakers for UAFS Commencement
Eileen Kradel, former vice president of compliance at Washington Regional Medical Center and member of the UAFS Board of Visitors, and Dr. Georgia Hale, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, will serve as speakers for the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. May 13.
