In front of a capacity crowd gathered in the lobby of the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s new state-of-the-art Recreation and Wellness Center – dubbed the “RaWC” – Chancellor Paul B. Beran lauded the building and the students who helped make it a reality during his remarks at the building’s ribbon cutting Aug. 22.
The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith has released the list of students receiving degrees and certificates during the spring 2016 semester and the first summer term ending in July.
Dr. Martin McDonell was working as a mental health counselor at a psychiatric hospital when he was first exposed to social workers and the good they did for the clients they served. As he said, “the light came on.” “I realized that’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to impact people’s lives. I wanted to work with them, talk with them, and just help make change,” McDonell said. “I realized there was a job out there where I could help somebody overcome their problems – that was just very rewarding for me.” Now, 28 years later with a wealth of practical and educational experience under his belt, McDonell wants to inspire University of Arkansas – Fort Smith students in a similar way as head of the newly-created social work program at the university.
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s state-of-the-art Recreation and Wellness Center will be celebrated during a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. Aug. 22 on the UAFS campus.
University of Arkansas - Fort Smith students will move into campus housing 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Aug. 18, 7:15 a.m. – 11 a.m. Aug. 19 and 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Aug. 20 with help from fellow students and UAFS staff around campus.
