Caton Earns CPPB Credential(Posted: April 7, 2014)

Rhonda Caton of Mulberry, director of procurement and travel services at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, has earned the Certified Professional Public Buyer credential from the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council.

Achieving the qualification required Caton to pass a three and a half hour exam after meeting a set of criteria, including an associate degree from an accredited university, 96 hours of related coursework in higher education, and a minimum of four years of public purchasing work experience.

Caton said the credential is highly respected among procurement professionals.

"This certification is globally recognized throughout the public procurement profession," Caton said. "It's something I've considered pursuing for several years, and I felt the time was right."

Caton said she will now begin pursuing the Certified Public Procurement Officer certification, a higher level of certification.

Caton, who is a former recipient of the Lucille Speakman Excellence Award at UAFS, has worked in procurement since 1995 and boasts a combined 28 years of experience working in higher education. She has held her current position since 2007.

The UPPCC is an independent organization that governs the CPPB and CPPO certification programs. The organization includes both a governing board and a board of examiners who oversee exam development and administration. It is located in Herndon, Va.
