Student Support Services is a federally funded educational opportunity program designed to increase the retention and graduation rates of first generation, economically disadvantaged, and/or disabled college students. Primary responsibilities include providing tutorial assistance to Student Support Services students. Tutors will be expected to promote effective academic readiness and good study habits.  Sessions will include, but are not limited to, assisting with comprehension of course work; studying for tests; enhancing learning concepts and strategies; and assisting with remedial programs.  Tutors will work closely with staff and participate as a team member to improve student retention and success. Routine work schedule may include varied hours Monday – Saturday and will be scheduled based on tutor availability. Student Support Services tutors may be needed in the following subject areas:

  • Accounting
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Beginning Algebra
  • Biology
  • Business
  • Calculus
  • Chemistry
  • College Algebra
  • English Composition
  • English Literature
  • History
  • Intermediate Algebra
  • Physical Science
  • Physics
  • Pre-Calculus
  • Psychology
  • Reading
  • Spanish
  • Trigonometry

Minimum qualifications include completed course work in the subject area with above average grades and well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.  Desired qualifications include: ability to present material using verbal, visual, and/or written methods; experience working in a college setting; and ability to incorporate technology into tutorial sessions.  Professional college teaching and/or tutoring experience preferred.  Candidates with prior experience working with similar programs and/or TRIO program alumni are encouraged to apply.


$9 to $11 per hour ($9—no degree; $10—bachelor’s degree; $11—master’s degree).
