Government and Community Relations

The office of Government and Community Relations is responsible for representing the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith to the federal congressional delegation, the Arkansas State Legislature, and the local government offices of Fort Smith, Sebastian County, and the surrounding cities and counties of the areas comprising our primary service region for western Arkansas.  This office works with legislators and government officials concerning various issues which include public policy and public funding.  This office also works closely with community and state organizations, including the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce, Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, Arkansas Department of Higher Education, and Arkansas Economic Development Commission. 

 

Office Functions:

  • Serve as a liaison between UAFS administrators, faculty, staff and students to coordinate activities and outreach efforts involving government relations
  • Monitor legislation at all levels of government and participate in public policy development 
  • Conduct community relations and civic engagement efforts to promote the mission of the university
