Spring 2023 Events

Join us as we move forward in our journey of music making and theatrical storytelling for this year’s Stacey Jones Season of Entertainment: New Horizons. Our Season will include a variety of performances from a choral extravaganza to nostalgic seasonal standards to a fully staged musical, all celebrating life and new adventures. Come along and be transported to a world of joy, beauty, and imagination!

Feb. 23 - Feb. 25 & Mar. 2 - Mar. 4:  The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

An eclectic group of sixth-graders arrives at the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, each eager to win for very different reasons. In hilarious, touching, and catchy songs, each speller reveals his/her hopes, struggles, and passions as they make their way through the competition. With an engaging, tuneful score by William Finn and a sweet, funny book by Rachel Sheinkin, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee causes audiences to fall in love, both with the show itself and its “perspicacious,” “jocular,” and “effervescent” spellers. Performances will take place at Breedlove Auditorium on the UAFS campus beginning at 7 p.m. each night. **UAFS Students, faculty, and staff without a ticket should show their UAFS ID for entry into the show. UAFS students receive one free ticket with their ID. Faculty and Staff may receive up to five tickets.**

Apr. 11: Jazz Band Concert

This 17-member “big band” will present a fun, high energy show of a variety of jazz styles including swing, Latin, rock, funk, blues, and jazz standards.  Featuring talented UAFS student musicians, this will be sure to be an enjoyable evening for everyone!  For more information, please contact director Steve Kesner at steven.kesner@uafs.edu.  This concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11 at the

Apr. 13: Jazz Catz Concert

The UAFS Jazz Catz always deliver a dynamic entertaining show, and this will be no exception. With a song list covering almost a century of recorded music, the Catz will be singing a wide variety of styles, including jazz, pop, rock, blues, ballads, Latin, and more. Special lighting, costumes, a bit of staging, and a driving rhythm section will add a special touch to the program. This is a musical showcase you won’t want to miss. Variety, pizzazz, high energy, excitement – this show will have it all. Come and enjoy a great night of family entertainment. This performance will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, The Annex at Eastside Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  
 
 

Apr. 18: Wind Ensemble Concert

The Wind Ensemble concert will have a mix of classic wind band repertoire and modern cutting-edge sounds of symphonic winds that is sure to please. The Wind Ensemble at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, under the direction of Dr. Alexandra Zacharella, director of bands and associate professor of low brass. This concert will feature world-renowned conductor H. Robert Reynolds as guest conductor. The concert will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at the ArcBest Performing Arts Center in downtown Fort Smith.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Apr. 27: Grand Night for Singing

Grand Night for Singing is the grand finale of choral singing at UAFS for the 2022-2023 academic year.  It will feature the UAFS Men’s and Women's Chorus, Leonis Chamber Singers, and special guests from in and around Fort Smith. This concert is designed to be a celebration of choral singing in all its forms so you will hear a diverse collection of music from contemporary choral favorites to modern pop tunes and musical theatre.  The performances are always enjoyable and moving.  Don’t miss this eventful evening full of recognizable tunes and the thrilling sounds of unified voices singing together. This concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at the ArcBest Performing Arts Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
