Chair and StripesForty pieces of small-scale artwork are now on display at the annual Small Works on Paper exhibit in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith through May 30.

The exhibit features artworks no larger than 18-by-24 inches and created by Arkansas artists, who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry. Works include photographs, pastels, acrylics and mixed media, and artists from across the state are represented, including Little Rock, Jonesboro and Russellville.

The exhibit travels to 10 venues throughout the state in a yearlong show and is selected by an out-of-state juror. This year’s juror is Kati Toivanen, professor of art and associate dean for undergraduate programs at the University of Missouri – Kansas City.

“I enjoyed seeing the rich variety of works and current artistic expressions in the state of Arkansas,” Toivanen said. “While the selection process was difficult and the results subjective, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and thank the Arkansas Arts Council for the opportunity. The annual competition is a wonderful vehicle for Arkansas artists to engage in a creative dialogue.”

The exhibit hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit is located on the west end of the first floor of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.
