The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith has announced the 2016-17 class of students participating in the Chancellor’s Leadership Council scholarship program.

The CLC scholarship is a highly competitive program for students demonstrating leadership capabilities and strong academic performance. Students selected for the scholarship enroll in a three-hour leadership course taught by Dr. Paul B. Beran, UAFS chancellor, with assistance from Dr. Elizabeth Underwood, associate vice chancellor of government and university relations. Students also embrace leadership roles on campus and complete service projects in the community.

 

Students in the 2016-17 CLC class are:

 

• Mary Beth Andrews of West Fork, dental hygiene major and daughter of Kristi and Stan Andrews. Andrews graduated from West Fork High School, where she participated in Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, Junior Bank Board and was co-coordinator of the 2014 Miss West Fork Pageant. She was also president of Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Honor Society.

 

• Luke Barber of Lavaca, business administration major and son of Mike and Lee Barber. Barber graduated from Lavaca High School, where he was president of Future Business Leaders of America and the Suicide Prevention Committee. He also participated in Student Body, Student Council and the leadership committee.

 

• Alicia Boyd of St. Paul, social work major and daughter of Davina and Robert Boyd. Boyd graduated from St. Paul High School, where she was president of Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America and Student Council. She also participated in the Upward Bound Math and Science Program, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Beta Club, Arkansas 4-H Club and was an Arkansas Girls State Delegate.

 

• Davin Chitwood of Fort Smith, international business major and son of Traci Chitwood and Greg Scott. Chitwood graduated from Northside High School, where he participated in the National Honor Society, Young Brothers Leading, Leadership Fort Smith and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

 

• Summer Eaton of Hartford, secondary education major and daughter of Carry Weaver. Eaton graduated from Hartford High School, where she was president of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Future Business Leaders of America, the National Honor Society and Student Council. She also participated in Future Farmers of America, upward bound and was editor of the school’s yearbook.

 

• Kippin Garner of Fort Smith, biology major and daughter of Cheryl Garner. Garner graduated from Southside High School, where she was involved in Future Business Leaders of America and the National Honor Society. She was also a mentor and on the cross country and track teams.

 

• Jack Gray of Booneville, business administration major and son of Jessica and Gary Gray. Gray graduated from Danville High School, where he was president of Future Farmers of America. He was also an Arkansas Boys State Delegate and participated in student council.

 

• Che Kinnard of Fort Smith, Spanish major and son of Katrina and Che Kinnard. Kinnard graduated from Southside High School, where he was involved in WATC, Future Business Leaders of America, the National Honor Society and the Southside High School Band.

 

• Colton Lister of Roland, Okla., engineering major and son of Tracey and Daniel Lister. Lister graduated from Roland High School, where he was involved in the VEX Robotics Club, the National Honor Society and Honor Club. He was also an Oklahoma Boys State Delegate and participated in the Roland High School Marching Band.

 

• Alexis Looper of Greenwood, nursing major and daughter of Nancy and Warren Looper. Looper graduated from Greenwood High School, where she was involved in Cade Commander of Greenwood Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Future Farmers of America, BETA, the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Club, Student Council and the 4-H Club. She was also an Arkansas Girls State Delegate and Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Outstanding Cadet.

 

• Sierra Martin of Pencil Bluff, healthcare administration major and daughter of Al Martin. Martin graduated from Oden High School, where she was president of Future Business Leaders of America, leader of Prom Committee, editor of yearbook and received the Presidential Silver Excellence Award.

 

• Andrew McClure of Fort Smith, mechanical engineering major and son of Theresa and Phillip McClure. McClure graduated from Southside High School, where he participated in Mu Alpha Theta, Robotics and Future Business Leaders of America. He also received an Eagle ranking from the Boy Scouts of America and All-State and All- Region Choir awards.

 

• Bailie Murphy of Van Buren, business administration major and daughter of Pattie and Audie Murphy. Murphy graduated from Cedarville High School, where she was president of Youth Alive and Future Business Leaders of America. She was also vice president of EAST and participated in student council, Beta club, science club, Gifted and Talented, basketball, track, attended Girl State and was a state merit winner for fine arts.

 

• John Nguyen of Clarksville, biochemistry major and son of Loc and Van Nguyen. Nguyen graduated from Subiaco Academy, where he was involved in Student Council, Robotics Club, Computer Program Club, BETA Club, Ham Radio Club, Future Business Leaders Of America, Quiz Bowl and received the presidential academic of achievement award as well as the 100 Club Volunteer Award.

 

• Dalton Norris of Rudy, accounting major and son of Kristie Bohl and Ronald Norris. Norris graduated from Van Buren High School, where he and was involved in the Partners Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, choir, All-Region Men’s chorus and received a financial literacy certification.

 

• Miranda Pham of Fort Smith, music major and daughter of Nhieu Kieu and David Pham. Pham graduated from Northside High School, where she was an all-Region band member, mentor and involved in Future Business Leaders of America, Mu Alpha Theta, Eco Green, National Honor Society and International Club.

 

• Kelsey Richard of Hot Springs, elementary education major and daughter Cindy and Jason Richard. Richard graduated from Lakeside High School, where she participated in SkillsUSA, National Honor Society, Beta Club, National Spanish Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Partners Club and Ramp Up. She also received the President’s Education Award and the Criminal Justice Champion Award.

 

• Allie Van Houden of Pea Ridge, education major and daughter Tina and John Van Houden. Van Houden graduated from Pea Ridge High School, where she was president of the National Honors Society and involved in Student Council, yearbook committee, Community Service Club and was the captain of the golf team.

 

• Taylor Wewers of Fort Smith, political science major and daughter of Michelle and Jason Wewers. Wewers graduated from Northside High School, where she was president of Future Political Leaders of America and Economics Club. She was also involved in Senior Council, National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. She was the Fort Smith Rotary Club Speech Contest Winner and received the Trinity Citizenship Award.
