The UAFS studio art program provides students advanced study in drawing, painting, printmaking, digital photography, letterpress, and book arts with a strong beginning in foundations courses followed by an admissions portfolio review. The program builds your visual literacy through study of art history, providing you a firm knowledge of the history and vocabulary of the visual arts.

Liberal arts and humanities courses will expand your knowledge of yourself, history, and contemporary society, all of which will help you better communicate through your art work. Students engage professional work in the field via guest artists, programming at the Windgate Art Gallery, study of our campus art collections, and visits to local and regional exhibition venues.

Studio art majors have access to our top-notch facilities, including individual studio space during the senior capstone. Upon graduation students will have exhibited senior capstone work in a gallery, and will demonstrate employable skills in problem solving, self-motivation, project management, and critical and creative thinking. By studying studio art, students learn to produce, lead, and define visual culture.
