The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith earned recognition this week as one of the top public universities in the south according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Colleges rankings, ranking No. 18 in the regional south.
The university also earned accolades in the categories of Top Performers in Social Mobility (No. 74) and Regional Colleges in the South (No. 61) and landed among the top business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) based on peer review.
“The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith delivers an exceptional educational experience. National rankings like these serve as a reminder that the performance of higher education institutions exist on a global stage, and a degree from UAFS allows our graduates to be competitive in our state and in our nation,” said Dr. Terisa Riley, chancellor of UAFS. “While we are honored to be recognized by U.S. News and World Report for our efforts, we remain vigilant in our strategic efforts to support our students, faculty and staff in the pursuit of educational excellence.”
In the university’s two highest-ranking categories, Top Public Schools in the Regional Colleges South and overall Best Regional Colleges South, UAFS tied with Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia, for the 18th and 61st slots, respectively.
As a regional institution serving many Pell Grant-eligible students, the university’s overall rank in the Top Performers in Social Mobility category acknowledges the institution’s historic dedication to serving students from all income brackets.
“The UAFS commitment to affordability and accessibility gives individuals exceptional opportunities to improve their financial and social statuses, improve their lives and livelihoods and provide better financial stability for future generations,” Riley said.
The social mobility indicator used by U.S. News & World Report measures how successful colleges are at enrolling and graduating students who receive federal Pell Grants.
