UAFS Prepares Students for Fall Finals

Written By: Ian Silvester

Studying for finals and working on projects can be a drag. You can feel mentally fatigued or put off what needs to be done. To reverse this, the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith is pushing back against the urge to delay what needs to be done.

The Long Night Against Procrastination is coming to UAFS from 5-10 p.m. on Nov. 30 in the Boreham Library. The international tutoring event is designed to inspire students in the days leading up to finals to kick the delay and finish the semester strong.

UAFS Academic Success Center (ASC) Director Andrea Burton said, “Finals are hard, and it’s easy to put off studying for them and get yourself into a bad situation.” She explained that the Long Night Against Procrastination is “an easy way to jump-start your prep for finals and get moral support as you break through that procrastination.”

All UAFS students are invited to the event, which will bring multiple student resources together at one time and in one place. Students can receive tutoring from the ASC or UAFS Writing Center. But if individual or group studying benefits a student, the Boreham Library provides ample space to spread out or reserve a study space. Library staff recommend booking a study room early to ensure the area is available. Room reservations can be made on the Boreham Library website at https://uafs.libcal.com/reserve/studyrooms.

Across the UAFS campus, people and offices want to help students. Having multiple student success services under one roof allows students to easily see what is available and what works best for them.

Organizers of the Long Night Against Procrastination will offer snacks, stress-relieving activities, study skill presentations, and “brain breaks” to keep students actively engaged. The event will be in the evening to encourage greater participation of students from all backgrounds – fostering a sense of community and belonging, all working toward a common goal: graduation.
