Lion Voices: Jasmine Rosa

Written By: Kolby McGee

Happy Friday Lions! This week's #LionVoices feature is Junior Biology major, Jasmine Rosa. Jasmine is from Van Buren and chose the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith because it allowed her to get a quality education at a reasonable cost. “UAFS also allowed me to be able to stay close to my home and the community that gave me so much.” Her favorite thing about UAFS, though, is the relationships she’s been able to build. “I can go talk to my professors or even my dean anytime I need to, and I feel comfortable reaching out to them with my concerns and ideas.”

Jasmine is president of IDEAL Women, an organization she has great pride in. “All the women who are involved with IDAEL Women are a great influence and we have such an amazing support system.” She also served as the Minority Association of Premedical Students chief of staff and was the sophomore class Student Government Association representative.

When asked who are the most influential people in her life, Jasmine immediately mentioned her parents. “They came to the United States as immigrants from El Salvador. I learned a lot about hard work and dedication from them. Being an immigrant was not easy, but it was God’s will that they are where they are now.

“My boyfriend is another big influence in my life. He always gives me gentle reminders to focus on myself as much as I do on my school work and others.”

She also shared that her faith has always been a major source of guidance in her life. “God has been my source and power when I don’t have any energy left.”

For a student as busy as Jasmine, juggling everything can be difficult. “It is important to trust in your own footsteps. Time is what you make it be and you will make time for the things that are important,” she said. “Keep your priorities straight and manage your time well.”

After earning her bachelor’s degree, Jasmine plans to attend UAMS. “I want to be a PA for women’s health, and eventually go into pediatric medicine.”
