Season Named for Stacey Jones

On Thursday, Jan. 26,  Dr. Terisa Riley, Chancellor of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, shared with the university family that the UA System Board had approved a special name change to honor Stacey Jones, assistant vice chancellor in University Advancement and member of the Westark Junior College class of 1971.

Dear colleagues and students,

It is with great pleasure that I announce unanimous approval by the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas to name the UAFS Season of Entertainment in honor of Stacey Jones. In consultation with his wife, Sheila, the UAFS leadership team sought a way to honor the life and legacy of Stacey after his 45 years of service culminating as Associate Vice Chancellor of University Advancement. As I presented our resolution to the Trustees today, I told them that the best way to honor Stacey Jones was to remember him forever as the founder of the UAFS Season of Entertainment, a program that brings world-class entertainment to our region through the incredible talents of our students and faculty in conjunction with performers and speakers who bring the world to Fort Smith.

To rightfully honor Stacey and his family, we will present the resolution approved by the Board of Trustees during the first show of the UAFS Theatre performance of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a performance which is hosted as part of the Stacey Jones Season of Entertainment. The show will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23 in Breedlove Auditorium. For tickets, please log in to our University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Ticketing - The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (universitytickets.com). The show will continue on February 24 & 25 as well as March 2-4.

I want to thank Faculty Senate and Staff Senate for the joint resolution they submitted to honor the life, legacy, and service of Stacey Jones. Likewise, my thanks to the Student Government Association for their similar support of Stacey Jones. It is an honor to work in a place where lifelong service is appreciated and admired by colleagues and students. Stacey would be moved by your support, I know.

In advance, thanks to all of you for your support of the Stacey Jones Season of Entertainment.
