Mid-Week Party Invites UAFS Community

Written By: Ian Silvester

The annual Campus Picnic and Block Party, which invites students to learn more about campus and community resources, returns to the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith.

Students can grab a free nacho lunch and explore nearly 90 campus and community organizations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, on the campus green.

“This is the best way for students to get connected with campus and start learning about opportunities outside the classroom,” said Dyllan Newell, coordinator for student activities and civic engagement.

Meet with the fraternity and sorority chapters at UAFS or stop by the dunk tank hosted by the Academic Success Center. Other student success resources include the Babb Center for Career Services, the Writing Center, and Financial Aid.

Cultural and special interest registered student organizations, such as ROTC, IDEAL Women, PRIDE at UAFS, the Black Student Alliance, and the Vietnamese Student Association, will also be in attendance.

Groups like the United Way of Fort Smith Area, the Fort Smith Boys and Girls Club, and Next Step Homeless Services will show students how to become more involved in the greater Fort Smith community. Other civic partners include the Sebastian County NAACP – Young Adult Committee, the Army National Guard, and the Democratic Party of Sebastian County.

Don’t leave without a piece of Lion Pride – a stuffed Numa to take home.
