Program Sets Schedule for Oral Health and Hygiene
Written By: Ian Silvester
The Dental Hygiene program at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith is hosting a month of programming for the mouths of students in the spirit of dental health and hygiene.
October is National Dental Hygiene Month, and UAFS is celebrating the month with Tooth Tip Tuesdays.
Each Tuesday, from Oct. 7-28, the Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association and the Dental Hygiene program will share a tip or an oral health-related fact on Facebook and Instagram. Anyone who likes, comments, or shares the post will be entered to win a prize at the end of the month.
Dr. Virginia Hardgraves, associate professor and executive director of Dental Hygiene, said using social media to share helpful information increases awareness of good oral health habits.
“Increasing oral health literacy during National Dental Hygiene month empowers people to take control of their oral health, reminding everyone that a healthy smile is an important part of overall health,” said Hardgraves.
At the end of the month, the two individuals who engage the most with Tooth Tip Tuesday postings will win either an Opalescence Whitening Kit, a 10-day supply valued at $75, or an Oral-B Electric Toothbrush, valued at $400.
