Spring Programming Preview at Boreham Library
Written By: Ian Silvester
As the semester winds down at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, students are balancing final exams and major projects while still finding ways to unwind. At the center of it all is the Boreham Library.
Faculty has developed a spring slate of programming at the library to increase awareness of all it has to offer and make it a place students can enjoy.
The entire UAFS community can participate in the brand-new event NumaCon, a Comic-Con-style event focused on the university, from 4-8 p.m. April 30.
“We hope to give all members of the UAFS community a chance to come together to share unique perspectives on pop culture, engage in creative and exciting activities and competitions, and have some fun with classmates and colleagues,” said Andrea Parton, discovery and access librarian, who is behind the event’s planning.
NumaCon will feature pop culture presentations, trivia, door prizes, food, games, activities, and competitions.
“Cosplay is strongly encouraged,” Parton added.
A week later, the bi-yearly Long Night Against Procrastination (LNAP) returns from 4-8 p.m. May 7. This semester, Student Success Librarian, Roxy Wylie, said the theme is Renaissance Faire, with the motto: “Take a Valiant Stand Against Procrastination!”
LNAP will feature returning favorites, such as cuddling with kittens, Paws with Professors, tutoring sessions with the Academic Success Center, Writing Center, and drop-ins with professors, door prizes—ranging from $20 Lion’s Cash to gift baskets and commencement regalia vouchers—and snacks and drinks.
“Long Night is a finals prep event focused on creating an energizing environment where students can set aside time to study for their finals, take needed breaks, and receive just-in-time tutoring,” Wylie said. “We want students to walk away from this event better prepared for their finals and knowing they are not alone in their college journey.”
New this semester will be a medieval tavern serving Coke and Root Beer floats, a photobooth room featuring Renaissance faire costumes, and a DIY Knight Costume room with tinfoil.
Keep an eye on NUMALink and the Weekly Campus Update email for more events and information happening around campus leading up to commencement.
