Campus Update, April 10, 2026
Written By: Teria Riley
Dear colleagues and students,
2026 Summer Hours: UAFS will observe our traditional summer work schedule in summer 2026. From May 18-July
31, our official business hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday
and 8:00 a.m. to noon on Fridays. We will update our summer work schedule website
with this information and forward a link to all of you next week.
FY27 Budget: Many thanks to leaders across the university, and especially to Budget Director Ellen
Binford and VCFA Carey Tucker, we will submit our FY27 (July 1, 2026-June 30, 2027)
budget today. On April 22, 2026, Mr. Tucker, Ms. Binford, and I will present our official
budget proposal to UA System President Jay Silveria. Of course, all budgets and tuition
and fee increases must be approved by the Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas
System, and they consider our request at their May meeting.
To balance our budget for next year, the Budget Council has recommended the following
assumptions: 1) An increase to tuition of fees that does not exceed the higher education
price index (HEPI) which is 3.6%, 2) No cost of living increases for employees (but
recommendation for one-time salary payments based on enrollment), 3) Enrollment that
is the same as in the 2025-26 year, and 4) multiple reductions made by campus leaders
in supplies, services, travel, and filled positions.
FY27 Faculty Contracts: Contracts for faculty for FY27 have been sent to each faculty member to review and
sign using DocuSign. If you did not receive notice of your contract, please feel free
to contact Brittany%20Slamons, Associate Director of the Department of Human Resources. (Also, please be sure to
check your quarantined messages in case our DocuSign message was quarantined. That
happened to me several times when attempting to access contracts to sign.)
19th Annual UAFS Student Research Symposium: My hearty congratulations to all students who took part in the Research Symposium
today. The presentations and poster sessions were excellent. I only wish I could attend
all of the sessions versus picking only a few. Many thanks to the members of the Research
Symposium Committee--Brandon Hutchison, Carolyn Fillippelli, Casey Harmon, Kevin Jones,
Taylor Martinez, Noel Sagullo, and Sharon Wu—and to all of the faculty who mentored
students who participated today.
Employee Appreciation Day: Thank you to Faculty Senate and Staff Senate for collaborating to create a fantastic
event today to honor our employees who dedicate so much of their lives to ensuring
student and community success.
One-Act Plays: This weekend, UAFS Students will be performing their one-act plays at 7 p.m. on Friday
and Saturday nights at the Breedlove Auditorium.
I hope you all have a fun, restful, and safe weekend.
I remain, as always, grateful to be your chancellor.
