Campus Update, January 30, 2026

Written By: Terisa Riley

Dear colleagues and students,

Welcome back to campus where offices are open, and classes are back in session. After a week of incredibly low temperatures and huge snow/ice/sleet accumulations, I am so happy to be back to work on campus.

I want to thank all of you for your patience this week as our crews worked diligently to restore campus operations. My special thanks to Chief Ray Ottman and all of UPD for keeping our campus safe. Many thanks to Samantha Gillespie and all of the Plant Operations crew for keeping our facilities in operation, and to HES for working so hard to clear our sidewalks and parking lots. The job was so big that we had to hire a private company, Nabholtz, to help us in order to be open today. Also, thanks to Chartwells employees—some of whom slept on the floor in the office just to make sure they could be here to provide meals in the dining hall—for feeding our residential students this week. It truly takes a village, and I am so proud to be part of this one!

Student Satisfaction Inventory:  This weekend, you’ll see an email in your inbox asking you to fill out a survey about what is important to you as a student and how satisfied you are with your UAFS experience. I hope you’ll take 15-20 minutes to complete this survey and help us find ways to improve your campus!  We use these results to assess the impact of campus initiatives and make decisions about changes and investments we need to make to serve you better, so please be honest! We are listening.

As a bonus, everyone who completes the survey will be entered into drawings for prizes including free parking passes, Owala water bottles, UAFS crewnecks, and several prizes of Lions Cash--up to $250.

Town Hall Forum: Please save the date for our next Town Hall Forum at 3:30 PM on February 18. During this forum, a representative from JM Partner Solutions will provide us with insights regarding enrollment management strategies based on an analysis conducted at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith last fall.

Congratulations to the Department of Art and Graphic Design: The Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas approved offering a new certificate in Book Arts which should be available beginning this fall.

I hope all of you have a safe, warm weekend.

Best always,

Terisa Riley
