Dear students and colleagues,
September 11th 25th Anniversary Remembrance: Vice Chancellor Carey Tucker and I were honored to join the Lion Company of ROTC,
Kappa Sigma Fraternity, UAFS Athletics, and a host of other people in running/walking
110 flights of stairs at the Stubblefield Center today in remembrance of those who
lost their lives on September 11, 2001. This opportunity to come together as a community
to remember one of the most horrific days in the history of our nation and serves
as a tribute to the lives lost and the first responders who ran into harm's way to
help others.
Vandalism: Earlier this week, you received a message from Vice Chancellor Carey Tucker informing
you that a person or persons used small projectiles to break windows at the Windgate
Art and Design Building and Advancement Building last weekend. I am happy to say that
Fort Smith Police believe they have the suspect in custody, and our UAFS Police Department
personnel were instrumental in making an arrest in this case.
Student Government Association: On Wednesday, Chief Ottman and I were special guests at the SGA meeting where we
discussed the university's response to the bomb threat and shared valuable information
about things we have learned as a result of that incident. Some key takeaways were
how helpful our monthly testing of the Lions Alert (emergency alert) system will be
as well as gaining insight about how shared reunification plans will improve student
responses during times of campus evacuations/closures. I am grateful to the SGA leaders
for sharing their concerns and serving as the voices for our students. Shameless plug:

Radiography: This week, the faculty and administration hosted site visitors representing JRC-ERC
accreditation. This experience was exceptional, and the visitors who evaluated our
program were incredibly impressed with our students, faculty, facilities, and clinical
partnerships. We will not have our final results for a few months, but this process
reassured us of the high educational quality of the UAFS Radiography program.

UAFS Windgate Art Gallery Opening TONIGHT:Glyphosate Dreams, a solo exhibition of work by Katina Bitsicas, will have an opening reception, free
and open to the public, from 5 to 7 p.m. In the UAFS Windgate Art and Design Building.
Light refreshments will be provided. If you miss the opening tonight, the exhibition
will be available for viewing until November 20.
Constitution Week: September 14-18 is Constitution Week, an observance to commemorate the adoption
of the U.S. Constitution. We have a host of educational and fun programs throughout
the week, so I hope to see you there!
