Accepted Students Day Roars Back with New Name

Written By: Ian Silvester

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith welcomed nearly 400 students and guests to campus on Friday, Feb. 13, to the rebranded Roar and Explore.

Previously known as Accepted Students Day, Roar and Explore drew 197 students admitted to UAFS who used the day to explore life as a Lion. The day-long event was highlighted by a Majors Expo, campus and residence hall tours, and informational sessions for students and parents.

In an email to campus, Brooke Magallanes, associate vice chancellor for enrollment and director of admissions, wrote that Roar and Explore is a way for admitted students to build confidence in college readiness, make informed enrollment decisions, and reinforce each student’s connection to UAFS by envisioning themselves as part of the campus community.

Parents whose child will be a first-generation college student and those sending a second or third to UAFS agreed Roar and Explore provided more than enough information to head home feeling prepared for what to expect.

Parents spent time in dedicated sessions to go over the next steps in the admissions process and financial aid. At the same time, students took part in mock class lectures. By the end of Roar and Explore, parents expressed excitement about their child attending UAFS, and many beamed, saying how proud they were of their student.
