Details on UAFS Move-In

In less than a month, new and returning students will moving into the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith campus for the start of the fall semester. 

Fort Smith residents can expect heavy traffic along Waldron Road on Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Friday, Aug. 14, as students move into the Lion’s Den Residence Hall. Traffic may also be disrupted at the intersection of Grand Avenue and North 50th Street. for Sebastian Commons move-ins on Aug. 14. The bulk of move-in traffic is expected between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. 

Students who will live in the Lion’s Den will start their move-in process by parking in Lot K on the corner of Waldron d and Kinkead Avenue. They and their guests can walk or ride in an available golf cart to the Lion’s Den South entrance to check in with a photo ID, where they will be provided an unloading pass and directed to move across the street to Lot H. 

Sebastian Commons residents will park in Lot D, shown in the Sebastian Commons Move-in Day Parking Instructions section of the Move-In Day Information website. These students will check in at the Housing Office before driving into the Sebastian Commons parking lot and parking near their apartment for unloading. 

Numa’s Move-In Crew will volunteer, directing traffic and helping students and their families unload belongings and settled into their new home. Those moving into the Lion’s Den will do so in one-hour time slots alphabetically by last name starting at 9 a.m. for A-F, followed by G-M, N-S, and T-Z beginning at noon. Stephanie London, assistant dean of students, said students do not need to be fully moved in during their respective time slot, and can contact housing@uasf.edu if they are unable to make their designated time to reschedule. 

“Making any move can be stressful, but we try to ease some of that stress with helping create a fun, welcoming environment on move-in day,” London said. “By having our Numa’s Move-In Crew ready to carry all your belongings to your room, our goal is to get you into your air-conditioned room quickly so that you can concentrate on the fun aspect of creating your new home-away-from-home.” 

With temperatures expected to still be stifling, London said waters will be provided to keep everyone hydrated. She said no pets will be allowed. Only those already approved as an ESA by Student Disability Services are permitted. 

Before moving into their rooms, students should review the “Resources” tab on the Move-In Day Information website for a complete list of what to bring. London stressed that air fryers or any other small electric appliance with an exposed heating coil or hot plate are strictly forbidden at the Lion’s Den. Microwaves and mini-fridges are fine, but have size limits. Microwaves should be smaller than one cubic foot/1000 watts and mini-fridges should be smaller than four cubic feet. 

Students who wish to adjust their lofted bed can call the RA on-call cell phone number located on the breaker box in their suite or at the main entrance to their building once they’ve moved in.
