There’s no slowing down at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, even during the summer months. Beginning in June, UAFS Athletics and the Department of Music will be hosting various summer camps to keep kids, ages K-12, active, entertained, and practicing skills until August. 

Students can choose from volleyball, basketball, cheer, and band camps at UAFS. Each camp is taught by coaches, players, and professors who are eager to share their knowledge with others. Individual camp information can be found by visiting the UAFS Calendar of Events, the UAFS Athletics website, or by clicking the corresponding links below. 

Summer Camp Slate: 

Athletics


Volleyball Skills Camp 

When: June 1 – June 3, 4-6 p.m. each day 

Who: Grades 6-12 

Price: $69 per session 

Where: Stubblefield Center at UAFS 

Details: June 1 session focuses on serving and passing; June 2 session focuses on hitting and setting; June 3 session focuses on blocking and defense. Save $10 on each session if registering at the same time. Register here.


Volleyball Little Lions Camp 

When: June 8 – June 10; 1-3 p.m. 

Who: Grades K-6 

Price: $79.50 

Where: Stubblefield Center at UAFS 

Details: Register here before May 30 and save $10.


Volleyball Elite Camp 

When: June 10 – June 12; see below for more details 

Who: Grades 7-12 

Price: $318 for overnight camper; $265 for day camper 

Where: Stubblefield Center at UAFS 

Details: Overnight camper price includes 2 nights in the Lion’s Den (UAFS dorms) and 4 meals; day camper price includes 2 meals. Scheduling details: Wednesday, June 10, 4:30-9 p.m.; Thursday, June 11, 9 a.m. to noon session, noon to 2 p.m. provided lunch, 2-5 p.m. session, 5-7 p.m. provided dinner, 7-9 p.m. session; Friday, June 12, 9 a.m. to noon session. Cheer Camp #1

When: June 24; 2-4 p.m.

Who: Grades 7-12

Price: $50

Where: Stubblefield Center at UAFS

Women’s Basketball Lion Team Camp #1 

When: June 4 – June 6; see below for more details 

Who: Grades 7-8 and Senior High Freshman, JV, and Varsity 

Price: $49-116.50; see below for details 

Where: Stubblefield Center at UAFS 

Details: Check in at 10 a.m., games TBD; 1 Day $49; 2 Day Commuter $61; 2 Day Overnight $79.50; 3 Day Commuter $64; 3 Day Overnight $116.50. There is a five-game guarantee (3-game maximum each day). Dorm rooms in the Lion’s Den are available. Register here.


Women’s Basketball Elite Camp #1 

When: June 14; check in at 1:30 p.m., camp is 2-6 p.m. 

Who: Grades 9-12 

Price: $79.50 

Where: Stubblefield Center at UAFS 

Details: Camp consists of skill work, offensive and defensive drills, 5-on-5 games, and an optional campus tour. Camp will be directed by UAFS coaching staff and student-athletes. Register here.

Music


Band Camp 

When: June 8 – June 12; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day 

Who: Grades 6-12 

Price: 185.00; includes camp t-shirt and lunch 

Where: Breedlove Auditorium at UAFS 

Details: Students who attend Band Camp will perform in either the wind symphony (grades 9-12) or symphonic band (grades 6-8) as part of their experience. UAFS Band Camp is under the direction of Dr. Alexandra Zacharella, director of bands. Dr. Z, as she’s affectionately known, will be joined by an esteemed music faculty of nationally and internationally recognized performers and teachers, including UAFS music faculty, Dr. Andrew DeBoer (clarinet), Ginny Hudson (flute), and Don Bailey (saxophones). The camp concludes with a final concert at 6 p.m. on June 12 in the Breedlove Auditorium. Register here before June 5 (late registrations will be accepted but may be subject to an additional fee). Scholarships available for students who made All-State ($30) and All-Region ($25) bands. Scholarships cannot be combined.


Jazz and Rock Camp 

When: June 16 – June 19; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day 

Who: Grades 8-12 

Price: $165; includes camp t-shirt and lunch 

Where: Breedlove Auditorium at UAFS 

Details: Students who attend the Jazz and Rock Camp will perform in Jazz/rock/pop/Latin combos and big bands, take improvisation classes, and work on songwriting. Students will also participate in “The Real World” Jazz Workshop hosted by Don Bailey, director of Jazz studies. The Jazz and Rock Camp is under the direction of Dr. Alexandra Zacharella, trombonist and director of bands. Dr. Z, as she’s affectionately known, will be joined by an esteemed music faculty of nationally and internationally recognized performers and teachers, including UAFS Jazz Catz Director Don Bailey and other UAFS and community Jazz musicians. Jazz and Rock Camp concludes with a final concert at 6 p.m. on June 19 in the Breedlove Auditorium. Register here before June 12 (late registrations will be accepted but may be subject to an additional fee). Scholarships available for students who made All-State ($30) and All-Region ($25) bands.
