The Blue Lion at UAFS Downtown is the new name -- effective immediately -- for the University-owned facility located at 101 N. 2nd St.
The building was formerly called Second Street Live before UAFS acquired it last year and began using the temporary name of UAFS at Second Street.
A decision on the new name came after Chancellor Paul B. Beran decided to go with an amalgam of ideas generated in a naming contest.
“The Blue Lion at UAFS Downtown has already been the site for numerous concerts, exhibits, meetings and workshops,” said Beran, “and it will continue to be a good choice for University- and community-sponsored events. Having this venue in the downtown area is important to us and to the region. Deciding on a new name took some time, but we believe the new name will establish the identity we want.”
The Marketing and Communications Office at UAFS will spearhead efforts for the design of a logo for the facility. KFSM-TV, which sponsored the naming contest, will do a random drawing to select a prize package winner from those who submitted name ideas.
