The College Music Society South Central Regional Conference held on the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith campus will include a free concert March 7 featuring UAFS faculty and students.

The 7:30 p.m. concert in Breedlove Auditorium, which is free and open to the public, will feature the UAFS Symphonic Band, Chorale and the Percussion Ensemble, as well as faculty members Dr. David Carter of Tulsa on clarinet, Dr. Matthew Vangjel of Fort Smith on trumpet and Virginia Hudson of Fayetteville on flute. The musicians will be performing compositions by CMS composers, including Charles L. Booker Jr. of Fort Smith, UAFS associate professor of music.

Dr. Alexandra Zacharella of Fort Smith, director of bands and associate professor of low brass at UAFS, is serving as organizer of the March 7-8 conference.  Zacharella is a member of The College Music Society (CMS) and serves on the national board of CMS as the co-chair for International Initiatives Committee.

“This is the first time that UAFS has hosted a College Music Society Conference, and we are really excited to be a part of this,” she said. “It is an honor and privilege to host the conference, and we are eager to share our beautiful campus and facilities with our musical colleagues from around the nation.”
