The Academy Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform their spring concert at 3 p.m. May 3 on the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith campus.

Admission for the event, which takes place in the Breedlove Auditorium, is $6 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under, with tickets available in advance from the UAFS Box Office.

C. Myron Flippin will conduct the Orchestra. Flippin is former music director of the Ozarks Philharmonic Youth Orchestras and was the principal conductor for the North Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra until 2008.

On the program for the Academy Orchestra are “Light Cavalry Overture,” “Emperor Waltzes,” “Hoe-down,” and “Berceuse.” The Academy Youth Symphony Orchestra features students in grades 8-12 and college age students through age 25.

Keota, Okla.: Courtney Cox.

Mena: Josiah Chiapparo, Mercy Chiapparo and Merribeth Christopher.

Spiro, Okla.: Tory Eatmon, Cassie Graham, Isaiah Jaramillo, Della Vue and Jared Michael Walker.

Van Buren: Hannah Martin and Patrick Martin.

 

Academy faculty & staff involved include Lori Fay, Barbara Godette, Amy Medlock, Evan Mino, Amy Simmons, and Bailey Carr. UAFS Academy student assistants include Luke Alexander, Ginger Jones, Kyle Jones, Mykala Parker, and Jacob Webb.

The Academy of the Arts gears its curriculum to children and teens ages one through 18 and currently offers a preschool program, instrumental ensembles, choral and theatre programs, private music lessons and an art program. Summer programs and camps are also on the Academy’s schedule.
