Kids and teenagers can find something to enjoy from the 23 camps and programs offered this summer by the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. 

 

The camps are offered by the university’s Academy of the Arts, the Center for Lifelong Learning, the Athletics Department and the Department of Music and Theatre.

Academy Camps

 

May 28-June 25: Musikgarten for ages 0-5, conducted by Lindsay Hobbs, with class times varying by age. Fee is $75. The camp will guide children in a variety of child-centered activities centered around music and movement. For more information, call Debbie Mays at 479-788-7251.

 

May 26-August 3: Private music lessons available in piano, wind, brass, percussion and string instruments, as well as voice lessons. Five- and 10-week options are available for 30-, 45- or 60-minute weekly lessons. Fees vary by length of session. Lesson times are scheduled at student’s convenience. June 8-12: Art Camp for grades 1-5, conducted by Anna Lewis and held from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Students will experiment in a variety of mediums including sculpture, painting and drawing, in addition to studying famous artists. Fee is $175. For more information, call Debbie Mays at 479-788-7251.

June 22-26: Broadway Bootcamp for grades 7-12, conducted by Shannon Stoddard, Mollie Armour and Gini Law and held from 1-5 p.m. each day. Fee is $185 and includes a free T-shirt. The camp is an intensive week of musical theatre featuring students performing their favorite Broadway musicals. A final performance will take place at 6 p.m. June 26 in Breedlove. July 20-24: Broadway Bound for grades 3-9, conducted by Shannon Stoddard and Gini Law and held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fee is $225 and includes a free T-shirt. Center for Lifelong Learning Camps

 

June 8-12: 3D Animation Camp for ages 8-11, conducted by Cody Holt and Heath Cady and held from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. each day. Fee is $65. Students will learn to create their own three-dimensional characters, while also seeing how games, movie clips and commercials are made. Participants will build and keep their own Lego kits with Lego miniatures, while also learning the basic steps of making a Lego movie using licensed software. Parents are encouraged to participate. June 2-25: Guitar Building, for ages 18 and up, conducted by Kerrie Taber and John Martini and held from 5:30-9:30 p.m. each day. Fee is $295. Athletics Camps

 

May 30: Baseball camp for Summer Prospects for grades 9-12, held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Fee is $100, with lunch provided. The camp will be conducted by Todd Holland, head coach of the Lions baseball team, and will identify and evaluate potential college baseball prospects. June 8-10: Volleyball Little Lions Skill Camp for grades K-7, held from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. each day. Fee is $100 and includes a free T-shirt. June 10-12: Volleyball Elite Camp for grades 8-12, held at varying times each day. Fee is $180 for residents and $150 for commuters and includes a free T-shirt. The camp will challenge players in all aspects of the game by focusing on the fundamentals of passing, serving, setting, blocking, attacking and defense.
