A University of Arkansas – Fort Smith student has received a prestigious and competitive nursing scholarship from Travel Nurse Across America.

 

London Griffith of Van Buren, a nursing major at UAFS, received a $2,500 scholarship that will fund general studies for the fall 2017 semester. TNAA scholarship recipients are chosen by a competitive analysis of open response questions, according to a press release from the organization.

 

She was honored to receive the scholarship, as she hopes to work for TNAA after graduating and help people from across the country.

 

“When I received the call that told me I won, I cried,” she said. “I was in such awe that all I could say was ‘Are you serious?’ I am still so honored and excited for this opportunity.”

 

Griffith, who transferred to UAFS in 2016, did so because of the school’s affordability and the nursing school’s reputation for producing quality nurses with high job placement rates.

 

“I have been interested in the medical field for as long as I can remember. I am so fascinated with the way that our bodies function on a daily basis. My dad is a nurse and my family and I have been through some horrible times and happy times,” she said. “From my dad fixing a cut on my finger in our kitchen, to seeing the compassion or pure joy radiating from the nurses that took care of me and my family, the good and bad times both inspired me to become a nurse.”

 

Travel Nurse Across America places travel nurse professionals on multi-week assignments in healthcare facilities in all 50 states. TNAA was awarded the HCSS Certification with Distinction by The Joint Commission and is a founding member of the National Association of Travel Healthcare Organizations (NATHO).
