Metcalf to Lecture on Child Protection
To increase the community’s understanding of the special dangers that lurk online for today’s children, Crimestoppers and the UAFS Criminal Justice Club will sponsor the lecture “Technology, Predators, and Children: Understanding the Threats” on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
Kevin Metcalf will speak at 6 p.m. at the Latture Conference Center in the Business and Industry building at 800 N. 50th St. in Fort Smith.
Metcalf is a former federal agent and prosecutor. He founded the National Child Protection Task Force, a nonprofit organization offering investigative expertise and other resources to law enforcement agencies.
Task force members volunteer their time to any agency looking for help in cases involving human trafficking, child exploitation, and missing persons.
“Metcalf is an international leader in innovative approached to synthesizing legal, closed-, and open-source intelligence to support missing person recovery, counter human trafficking cases, and fight child exploitation worldwide,” said Dr. Steve Wilson, the new chair of the UAFS Department of Criminal Justice.
Wilson served four years in the Air Force and seven years as a police officer before earning a doctorate in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska. He has about 20 years of experience in higher education, more than half in leadership positions.
