UAFS to Host Arkansas Academy of Science Annual Conference

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will host the 107th Annual Meeting of the Arkansas Academy of Science (AAS) on April 5-6, 2024.

The AAS meeting is expected to draw scientists from across Arkansas to share research and explore advancements in a broad array of scientific disciplines. With submissions totalling well over 100 abstracts, the conference slate highlights the depth of scientific inquiry in the state.

This year, the AAS aims to broaden the spectrum of scientific areas represented at the conference, embracing fields such as Agriculture, Food, and Renewable Resources; Anthropology; Atmospheric and Hydrospheric Sciences; and more, in addition to traditional subjects like Medicine, Microbiology, and Physics.

The conference will kick off Friday at 12:30 p.m., with opening remarks from Fort Smith Mayor George McGill and UAFS Chancellor Dr. Terisa Riley, followed by a series of oral presentations, poster sessions, and a banquet featuring keynote speakers Dr. Jessica Hernandez and Dr. Douglas Rhoads. The event promises to offer valuable networking opportunities and insights into the latest scientific advancements.

Established in 1917, the Arkansas Academy of Science has been a cornerstone for scientific communication and promotion in the state. The organization supports scientific education and research through grants and awards, funded by annual membership dues. This year’s meeting at UAFS not only celebrates the continuation of this legacy but also emphasizes the importance of science in fostering educational opportunities and enhancing the quality of life in Arkansas.
