Summer Band Camps Announced
The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Department of Music and Theatre will offer two exciting music camps in June.
The Band Camp will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 10-14. Open to students in grades 6 to 12, Band Camp will offer a fun ensemble musical experience led by Dr. Alexandra Zacharella, UAFS director of bands, and other outstanding university music faculty.
The UAFS Jazz and Rock Band Camp will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 18-21. Open to students in grades 8 to 12, the Jazz and Rock Camp will offer a musical immersion into jazz, Latin, pop, rock, and funk musical styles. Zacharella will direct the camp alongside UAFS faculty and local jazz artists. This camp will include “The Real World” Jazz Workshop, hosted by Don Bailey as part of the Shane Bailey Foundation.
Band Camp students will perform in the wind symphony (grades 9-12) or the symphonic band (grades 6-8). There will be a final concert at 6 p.m. June 14 in Breedlove Auditorium. The cost is $185 for commuters and includes daily lunch and a camp T-shirt. Scholarships are available for students who made All-State ($30) and All-Region ($25) bands. The registration deadline is June 7.
The Jazz and Rock Band participants will also be able to work with big band music, take improvisation classes, and work on songwriting. UAFS Jazz Band and Rock Lab Director Dr. David Tyson will join Zacharella and Bailey. A final concert will be at 6 p.m. June 21 in Breedlove Auditorium. The cost is $165 for commuters with daily lunch and a T-shirt included. Scholarships are available for students who made All-State ($30) and All-Region ($25). The registration deadline is June 14.
