Den Day Delivers Record-Breaking Attendance

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith celebrated the fall Den Day with another record-breaking turnout—the third in a row.
This year’s Den Day was attended by more than 600 prospective high school students, outpacing last fall’s record, said Brooke Magallanes, associate vice chancellor for enrollment and director of admissions.
“My team has really gotten out into the high schools and made strong connections with the students,” Magallanes said.
The format for Den Day looked different this year, with students meeting with colleges and faculty in the morning before learning more about the 20-plus Registered Student Organizations operating tables at the Bell Tower Takeover, a block party experience.
“By the time they leave, students should know what major they want, one or two organizations they want to join, that there are a ton of support services on campus, and that they can have fun at UAFS anywhere along the way,” Magallanes said.
Den Day concluded with campus tours, which allowed prospective students to visit the newly opened nursing simulation lab, dental hygiene office, and more.
By the end of the day, Magallanes said she hoped each student left UAFS knowing that they are going to find the best support outside the classroom and best experience inside the classroom.
“They are also going to find out how affordable UAFS is and see that this is a community that cares about the university and the programs that result in jobs once they graduate,” she said.
Ava Lensing, a senior from Clarksville, Ark., attended Den Day with friends precisely because of this. She said UAFS is the closest university to home that offers a degree in surgical technology.
For Josiah Gonzalez, a senior from Southside High School, Den Day allowed him to learn more about the faculty and organization of the advanced manufacturing degree program.
