Counselor Brunch Garners Record Attendance

UAFS Admissions hosted 106 high school counselors and school partners from 44 high schools and five community colleges across Arkansas and Oklahoma on Friday, September 18.

The event, the university’s largest to date, featured presentations from each of the university's three academic colleges, as well as admissions and financial aid. Sessions offered an in-depth look at the institution, its policies and procedures, and the numerous academic and financial opportunities available to prospective students.

“This brunch gives us an opportunity to celebrate the school counselors and partners who are helping high school and transfer students make important decisions about their futures,” said Darbi Owen, campus visit coordinator for UAFS Admissions. “We are so grateful to see record attendance this year, and I think it says so much about the excitement our partners have for UAFS and the opportunities we have to offer their students."

Alisha Lewis, assistant director of operations and communications at the Arkansas Division of Higher Education, also presented during the event, offering counselors valuable information about ADHE initiatives and the year ahead.

"The counselor role is so important in a student's educational journey,” said Blake Rickman, Executive Vice Chancellor for University Advancement. “We want to be a resource to the students in our community, but also to the people who are doing the critical work of helping them navigate, plan, and take their next steps."

Each counselor also left with the opportunity to nominate an eligible student from their school to receive a one-time $750 scholarship if they choose to attend UAFS in the summer or fall of 2027.
