The Bumper Jacksons

The Bumper Jacksons, a six-piece band showcasing an eclectic mix of folk music, will come to The Blue Lion at UAFS Downtown, located at 101 N. 2nd Street, for a performance at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17.

Tickets for the performance, which is sponsored by the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Season at The Blue Lion, are $25 and are available by visiting http://uafs.universitytickets.com or contacting the UAFS Box Office at 479-788-7300.

Featuring music “from the streets of New Orleans to the holler of the Appalachian mountains,” The Bumper Jacksons have earned acclaim for their bold yet elegant sound. Formed in 2012, they quickly rose to prominence after being honored as the “2015 Artist of the Year” and “Best Folk Band” from 2013-15 by the Washington Area Music Awards.

Stacey Jones, associate vice chancellor for campus and community events at UAFS, said the band’s music has "something for everyone.”

“Their sound is hard to describe, but that’s one of the things that attracted them to me,” Jones said. “The lead singer would be playing the violin one song, then put it down and pick up a washboard the next. It’s authentic Americana that is new and refreshing for our market. The Bumper Jacksons has something for everyone’s taste in music.”

The band features Jess Eliot Myhre on clarinet, vocals and washboard; Chris Ousley on guitar, vocals and tenor banjo; Alex Lacquement on bass and harmony vocals; Dan Samuels on drums and suitcase percussion; Dave Hadley on pedal steel guitar; and Brian Priebe on trombone and harmony vocals.

The show is part of the university’s Season at The Blue Lion, a lineup of musical performances held at the university’s downtown venue featuring local and nationally-recognized musicians.
