Dr. Kendra Abel is the interim coordinator of Elementary and Middle Level Programs and an assistant professor for the School of Education at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. With more than a decade of experience as a teacher in the Oklahoma City metro area, she has taught students in public school settings across early childhood, elementary, middle, and secondary grade levels. In her current role, she is dedicated to preparing teacher candidates to be “Day-One Ready” for their future teaching careers. Dr. Abel’s research interests include student engagement practices, collaborative learning strategies, Native American studies, oral histories, and historical narratives of educational experiences.

Having grown up just across the state line in Stigler, Oklahoma, Dr. Abel enjoys opportunities serving students from Oklahoma in addition to those from Arkansas. She is a proud citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
