Dr. Leigh A. Carter is an assistant professor in the School of Education atUAFS. Dr. Carter earned her doctoral degree through Saint Louis University. In her role at UAFS, she serves as the coordinator of field experiences and teacher licensure within the same department. With more than three decades of experience as an educator in Missouri, Texas, and Arkansas, she has taught students across elementary, middle, and secondary grade levels. Dr. Carter’s public school experience includes serving as a teacher, principal, district director (GT and ESOL), and assistant superintendent. Her research interests include mentoring practices to support early career educators, equal access and a culturally responsive approach in teaching, and academic support through wraparound services.

Having graduated from Mountain Home High School and being a long-term resident of the Natural State, Dr. Carter appreciates the opportunities provided to her and her family here in Arkansas. She is eager to give back and serve at UAFS. In her current role, she is dedicated to preparing teacher candidates to be “Day-One Ready” for their future teaching careers.
