Ekaterina Smith has been educating nursing students at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith since January 2018. Her areas of expertise include medical-surgical nursing, community and leadership, and gerontological nursing. She enjoys teaching adult learners using innovative pedagogy in a variety of settings. Her passions include motivating, inspiring, and helping students become successful, competent, and safe nursing graduates. She is diligently working to acquire her terminal degree in nursing education to demonstrate her commitment and love for the profession. She is passionate and committed to lifelong learning and constantly seeks ways to improve nursing education and the future of the nursing profession.

Smith is interested in exploring academic burnout in doctoral and baccalaureate nursing students. As higher education deals with the COVID-19 pandemic, it would be beneficial to examine the transition period of newly licensed nurses entering the nursing profession. Her research interests include studying motivation in doctoral students, emotional intelligence, nurse burnout, diversity in healthcare, holistic college admission, and other health-related topics.
