Leonie Tampus started her nursing career in a facility that specializes in maternal and childcare. She had also worked in NICU for several years. She then switched to teaching at the University of Cebu, Philippines, in their Bachelor of Science in Nursing program focusing on the care of an adult.

When she moved to the United States with her family, she worked as a bedside care nurse for several years and precepted several nurses, including nurses that transitioned from L.P.N. to B.S.N. degree. With her desire to pursue teaching, she took a position at UAFS as an adjunct clinical instructor in the B.S.N. program in 2015. After she completed her M.S.N. in education in 2021, she became a full-time faculty member of the UAFS Carolyn McKelvey Moore School of Nursing.
