Campus Update, Oct. 25, 2024

Written By: Terisa Riley

Dear colleagues and students,

Transfer with Pride: During the month of October, UAFS employees—including Numa—have traveled to the University of Arkansas Community College at Rich Mountain and to Carl Albert State College to talk to prospective students about transferring to UAFS. We have held very successful meetings with colleagues at both institutions to discuss streamlining our articulation agreements which will help students transfer to UAFS with ease. If you know someone who may have an interest in transferring to UAFS, please have them contact the UAFS Admissions Office at admissions@uafs.edu or 479-788-7120.

UAFS Gallery of Art and Design Exhibit: The UAFS Gallery of Art and Design will host a gallery opening which is free and open to the public tonight (10/25) from 5-7 p.m. in the Windgate Art and Design Building. Titled “Framing/Reframing,” the exhibit will feature works from our permanent gallery which will be displayed in fresh, new ways. I am eager to see this exhibit, and I hope you will join me for the reception tomorrow evening. If not, the exhibit will be available for viewing until December 1, 2024.

Campus Signage: By now, I hope you have noticed the new campus signage which is being installed across the UAFS grounds. I am so grateful for the generosity of the UAFS Foundation because they have donated the funds to pay for this project which will beautify and assist newcomers as they traverse our campus. A BIG thank you to Assistant Vice Chancellor Chris Kelly for his hard work and diligence to design these new signage standards and ensure the high quality of the branded marks on our campus.

Haunted University: UAFS will host a family-friendly haunted house with carnival games and trick-or-treating for little Lions on Saturday, October 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center and Campus Green. This is free and open to the public, so we hope you and your families will participate!

Athletics: Best of luck to Men’s and Women’s Cross Country as they compete in the MIAA Championships this weekend, and to UAFS Volleyball as they compete against the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Stubblefield Center.

UAFS Center for Economic Development:Congratulations to our amazing leaders at the UAFS Center for Economic Development on the success of the inaugural Excellence in Family and Small Business Awards. Hundreds of business owners, community leaders, and UAFS supporters joined us as we announced the winners, and Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty/Duck Commander fame served as our keynote speaker. Special thanks to Gary Cude and Marcus Smith for making the beautiful awards in our Computer Integrated Machining Lab at the Peak Innovation Center.

UAFS Perk Stop: UAFS has created a fantastic opportunity for local business owners to give YOU discounts on products and services. From automotive repair to dining, you can use your student or employee ID at a variety of businesses to receive discounts. Take a look at the list of participating businesses, discounts they offer, etc. on our UAFS Perk Stop website. If you don’t see a business listed, please ask them to consider participating. The website has links for new businesses to sign up. Oh, and don’t forget to take your ID when shopping, dining, etc. because it will be required to get your discount.

Have a fantastic, fall weekend!

I remain, as always, honored to serve as your chancellor.
