Accepted Day to Welcome New Students

Written By: Rachel Putman

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will host Accepted Student Day on Feb. 28, welcoming newly admitted students to campus for a full day of activities designed to introduce them to university life.

Nearly 400 students registered for the event, with close to 900 guests. This is our largest Accepted Students Day event since we launched the event in 2022.

Additionally, close to 20% of students who registered are out-of-state students.

“I personally LOVE Accepted Students Day because it allows our students to better see themselves as UAFS students,” said Maddie Hardwick, Assistant Director for Recruiting at UAFS. “This is a day where it kind of ‘clicks’ for them, and it’s an exciting thing to watch and play a part in!”

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with check-in and a resource fair, followed by breakout sessions, a mock classroom experience, and lunch. Current students, faculty, and staff will be available to answer new student questions throughout the day. Parents will also have a dedicated track to learn how to support their students’ transition to college, with sessions in both English and Spanish.

At 1:30 p.m., the UAFS Majors expo, open to current students and new students alike, will take place in the Recreation and Wellness Center, offering a chance to explore major options and talk with faculty.

The day will conclude with campus and housing tours, as well as an opportunity to attend a UAFS baseball game. The event is designed to help new students familiarize themselves with campus resources and build connections before their first semester.
