Teaching English as a Second Language

Do you dream of traveling through exotic countries, exploring unfamiliar cultures, and meeting new people from all corners of the planet? If your answer is YES, then a Certificate of Proficiency in Teaching English as a Second Language may be just the credential you're looking for.

Teaching English as a Second Language is a high-demand subject of instruction in Arkansas.  As children from foreign countries continue to immigrate to the United States and enroll in Arkansas schools, the number of students whose native language is not English continues to grow. The CP in TESL seeks to prepare UAFS students for work with this specific demographic.  In addition, the CP in TESL opens doors for teaching abroad. Many new and inexperienced teachers choose teaching English overseas as an exciting way to gain teaching experience, travel and be immersed in a new culture.

Completion of the coursework for this CP prepares candidates for the TESL Endorsement, grades P -12. TESL Endorsement candidates must be accepted into the UAFS Educator Preparation Program or hold an initial or standard teaching license. Students who meet these criteria may be recommended to the Arkansas Department of Education upon completion of the requirements.
