Azahares Literary Magazine
Azahares is UAFS's premier Spanish-language literary magazine. The primary purpose of this
magazine is to provide students and community members with a literary space for writing
and artwork that presents the themes of the Latin@ experience. At Azahares, we're looking for fresh work: poetry that transports us into new perspectives; prose
that makes us laugh or cry or sigh with satisfaction; art that lifts us towards the
sublime or sooths us like un chocolatito caliente on a cold evening. We particularly
enjoy publishing works that illustrate the best of what it means to be human.
The Spanish literary magazine Azahares is one of the signature program of the World
Languages Department. It's the only Spanish literary mag in the region. Yearly contributors
come from our student body, but also from Spain, New York, California, Texas, and
Central and South America.
The azahar, or orange blossom, is a flower of special meaning, forming part of the
iconic tradition of the Spanish-speaking world, embodying a freshness of spirit and
perspective captured with this publication. Azahares welcomes student work as well as submissions from all members of the community.
