Noted clarinet soloist and chamber musician Kimberly Cole Luevano from the University of North Texas School of Music in Denton will be the featured artist for the third annual Arkansas Clarinet Workshop.

The Arkansas Clarinet Workshop will be held June 19-21 at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith’s Breedlove Auditorium, 5210 Grand Ave.

Dr. David Carter of Fort Smith, UAFS assistant professor of music (clarinet and saxophone), is excited about bringing the musician to Fort Smith for the workshop and for the public to hear.

“It’s a pleasure to host her,” Carter said. “She is an excellent musician, an important teacher and a kind and genuine person. She teaches at one of the most prominent schools of music in the country, and we are honored by the opportunity to have her on our campus for our students and the community.”

The artist joined the UNT faculty as assistant professor of clarinet in 2011 and is also a member of the clarinet faculty at the Interlochen (Mich.) Arts Camp, where she has taught since 2003. Prior to her appointment at UNT, she was professor of clarinet at Eastern Michigan University for 15 years.

She has presented master classes throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and South America. In addition, she has performed at the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest on numerous occasions, including those held in Stockholm, Vancouver (British Columbia) and Austin, Texas.

The Arkansas Clarinet Workshop presents clinics, master classes and performances for junior high, high school and college clarinet students and educators.

Also participating in the workshop this year is Dr. Nicolas del Grazia, clarinet professor at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.

“The clarinet workshop is a great opportunity to collaborate with other Arkansas clarinet professionals,” Carter said. “Dr. del Grazia is a fine player and colleague, and we are very pleased that he will be joining us.”

Workshop students participate in an intensive three-day seminar, with each day culminating in a 6 p.m. artist recital. The final recital will feature Cole and the ACW Clarinet Choir. All recitals are free and open to the public.

Workshop fees are $85 for commuters (no meals or housing), $125 for commuters with meals and $195 for residential students (on-campus housing and all meals included).

“The first two clarinet workshops were a lot of fun, and we are excited to continue the tradition this year,” Carter said.
